The Brunswick Club continues to draw new membership to snooker and billiards through the website and we have had another successful year to date.
Steve Mifsud continues to dominate the Australian snooker scene with some great wins in 2014. However, Steve is being hotly pursued by a homegrown up-and-comer Charlie Chafe, who is consistently making his way to the last four in major tournaments.
One of the highlights was Steve Mifsud winning the 2014 Oceania Men’s Snooker Championship, defeating Charlie Chafe 6-2 and by doing so, won his way to a ticket on to the professional snooker circuit in the UK.
The Brunswick Club hosted the John McKay Australian Under 21 Snooker Championship for the second year where local club member Charlie Chafe won a consecutive Under 21 title, defeating fellow Victorian Ryan Thomerson 6-2. Ryan had a high break of 93, and Arthur Lin was a quarter-finalist where he was defeated 4-2 by the eventual winner, Charlie Chafe.
In the Snooker Premier League, Brunswick continued its dominance in the A Premier level. In the final, the score was very close, but Brunswick prevailed against an AK8 team that was stacked with ‘Gorski family members’, winning with a narrow scoreline of 10-8.
In the A Reserve Grade Snooker, Brunswick also succeeded with a resounding 7-3 win against Legends.
Other notable achievements in 2014:
– Steve Mifsud defeated Shawn Budd 4-0 in the 2014 Lance Pannell Snooker Classic.
– Steve Mifsud was runner-up to Matthew Bolton 4-3 in the 2014 Fred Osbourne Classic in Albury.
– James Mifsud was runner-up to Adrian Ridley in the 2014 West Coast International Snooker Tournament, being defeated 5-4 in a closely contested event.
– Charlie Chafe defeated Kurt Brown in the Oceania Under 21 Snooker Championship 6-1 and made two century breaks, a 106 and a 104..
The Brunswick Club continues to be the headquarters of the best snooker and billiards to be played in Australia and may the great tradition continue for many years to come.
